Common Symptoms of Head and Neck Cancer
Typical symptoms of head and neck cancer include a lump or sore that does not heal or go away, a persistent sore throat, difficulty swallowing or hoarseness.
Other symptoms specific to the various cancers include:
Oral Cavity Cancer
- A white or red patch on the gums, tongue or lining of the mouth
- A swelling of the jaw
- Bleeding or pain in the mouth
Nasal Cavity or Sinus Cancers
- Sinuses that are consistently blocked
- Chronic sinus infections that do not respond to treatment with antibiotics
- Bleeding through the nose
- Frequent headaches
- Constant swelling or watery eyes
- Pain in the upper teeth
Salivary Gland Cancer
- Swelling under the chin or near the jawbone
- Numbness of the face muscles
- Pain in the face, chin or neck that does not go away
Oropharynx and Hypopharynx Cancers
Nasopharynx Cancer
- Breathing trouble
- Frequent headaches
- Pain, ringing in the ears or difficulty hearing
Larynx Cancer
- Pain when swallowing
- Ear pain
